All concerned Film Trade Bodies with a request to inform their members,

Entries invited for Oscar Award Consideration.

Like previous years Film Federation of India is authorized to select one film for the consideration of 'Oscar Award' in the category "International Feature Film Award" (Formerly called 'Best Foreign Language Film Award’).

We will soon start the process for selection one film. Meanwhile, your members/ producers may be requested to keep the following documents/ informations ready,

1) Date of theatrical release in India/ Overseas (other than USA) if prior to theatre closures for Covid OR the OTT platform release date with platform name.*
2) Copy of Censor Certificate.
3) Synopsis of the film in English.
4) Detailed Cast and Crew listing.
5) Your GST Number and communication address.

We also quote below for your information the rules governing the Award.

Quote:

An international film is defined as a feature-length motion picture (more than 40 minutes) produced outside the United State of America and its territories with a predominantly
(more than 50% non-English dialogue track. Animated and documentary feature films are permitted.

Approved Selection Committees are invited to submit ONLY ONE film for consideration for the International Feature Film Category.

The country-selected film must be first released in the country of origin no earlier than January 1, 2022 and no later than November 30, 2022, and be first publicly exhibited for at least seven consecutive days in a commercial motion picture theater for the profit of the producer and exhibitor. Last date for submitting the selected film to the Academy in Monday, October 3, 2022.

  • Country-selected films that had a previously planned theatrical release but are initially made available through a reputable commercial streaming distribution service or video on demand may qualify for Awards consideration in the International feature Film category for the 95th Academy Awards under these provisions:
    • Provide to the Academy documentation (original document(s) and an English translation) of government-mandated theater/ cinema closure dates, previously planned theatrical release and streaming distribution or video on demand agreements;
    • Meet all other eligibility requirements.
  • In order for films to more easily meet theatrical exhibition requirements, the Academy will allow films to qualify outside the country of origin, provided the film is theatrically exhibited outside of the United States and its territories for at least seven consecutive days in a commercial motion picture theater for paid admission.
  • The International Feature Film Executive Committee will continue to evaluate all matters of rules and eligibility.

Film Federation of India will begin the screening process from mid September' 2022. The date from which we will start accepting the entries and the closer date, will be Intimated in due course.

The details regarding the Service Charges etc. would be sent soon.

Ref. Our earlier mail dated 22nd July’ 2021.

Entries invited for Oscar Award Consideration.

We will soon start the process for selecting one film for the consideration of `Oscar Award‘ in the category "International Feature Film Award” (Formerly called `Best Foreign Language Film Award’).

Members may send the entries directly to our address i.e. B-3, 3rd Floor, Everest Building, Tardeo, Mumbai – 400 034.

Following informations must be sent with each entry – 1) Name of the feature film.
2) Name of the Producer / Banner.
3) Date of theatrical release in India/overseas (other than USA) if prior to theatre closures for Covid OR reputable OTT platform release date with platform name. Video on demand is also qualified.
4) Copy of Censor Certificate.
5) Synopsis of the film in English.
6) Detailed Cast and Crew listing.
7) GST Number and communication address.

At the time of entering the film each producer will also be required to pay a non refundable Demand Draft of Rs.82,600/- (Rs.70,000/- Service Charges + 18% GST) payable to Film Federation of India at Mumbai to be couriered or hand delivered to our Mumbai office on the following address:

If any producer wishes to deposit the money directly in the bank, the bank details are as under:

*In case the release of the film/s is/are pending (eligibility period 1 January 2021 to December 31, 2021, an undertaking on producers letterhead mentioning the proposed release date and a copy of the agreement page with OTT platform. Last date for submitting the entries is October 8, 2021.

The Screening Process

The screening process will begin from mid October, 2021. If the screening is virtual, we will get back to the producer by 30th September, 2021 and if physical, we would let the producers know the deadline and the address for submitting the DCP etc.

For urgent circulation to your members

Entries invited for Oscar Award Consideration.

Like previous years FFI is authorized to select one film for the consideration of Oscar Award in the category "Best Foreign Language Film Award". The selection committee set up for this purpose will view the films entered for selection from 15th September as we have to submit the film to the Academy not later than October 1, 2018. The Producers may send their entries either through you or directly to our office in Mumbai. The following conditions must be adhered to:

  1. The films must be commercially released in India between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018. The film must run at least for seven consecutive days.
  2. The entries must reach the office of the Federation not later than September 8, 2018. As the films released between October 1 and September 30 are eligible, the films which are slated for release on any later date within September 30th are also eligible.
  3. Each producer whose film is entered for selection will be required to pay non-refundable Service Charges (amount to be notified later) through D. D. payable to Film Federation of India, at Mumbai.
  4. One English Subtitled print/DCP and synopsis of the film must reach the venue between 10th and 14th September’ 2018. Prints/DCP received after the stipulated date will not be considered. We are finalising the venue for screening and the same will be intimated shortly.

The selection committee set up for this purpose will view the films entered for selection from 16th September as we have to submit the film to the Academy not later than October 1, 2017. The Producers may send their entries directly to our office in Mumbai. The following conditions must be adhered to:

  1. The films must be commercially released in India between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. The film must run at least for seven consecutive days.
  2. As the films released between October 1 and September 30 are eligible, the films which are slated for release on the last Friday of the month, 29th September may also be considered.
  3. Each producer whose film is entered for selection will be required to pay non-refundable Service Charges of Rs.50,000/-(Rupees Fifty Thousand Only) through D. D. payable to Film Federation of India, at Mumbai.
  4. One English Subtitled print/DCP and synopsis of the film must reach the venue between 10th and 14th September' 2017. Prints received after the stipulated date will not be considered. We are finalising the venue for screening and the same will be intimated shortly.
